Two doctoral students

Two doctoral students from the Dominican Order are spending some time with us researching in the library of the École. Fr. Edgar Toledo Ledezma, OP, is staying for two months, launching the first stages of his doctoral dissertation which pursues the theme of the rich in the Luke’s Gospel from a socio-rhetorical perspective. He is working with Santiago Guijarro from the Pontifical University of Salamanca. Fr. Edgar is one of the few Dominicans native to Paraguay; therefore his mother tongue is Guarani. He was also a student of fr. Gabriel Napole, OP, who passed away five years ago, an alumnus and visiting professor of the EBAF. Since fr. Gabriel initiated his work for the BEST project with the Spanish version of the book of Joshua, fr. Edgar is also interested in developing the Spanish section of the project, most likely concentrating on the gospel of Luke. Once having defended his thesis, he will continue his teaching at the Catholic University of Asunción.

Fr. Rodrigo Rivero Gutierrez, OP, from Colombia, will remain with us for a bit shorter time, just two weeks. Having acquired his licence from the Milltown Institute in Dublin, he is working now on his doctoral dissertation for the Pontifical Bolivarian University in Bogota. Since he is being formed in a more pastoral perspective proper for the CEBITEPAL institute, he is pursuing the theme of the reconciliation within the narrative method, also in Luke’s gospel. Afterwards, he hopes to teach at the Dominican Santo Tomas University in Bogota.
