A HOLY LAND TIME FOR THE PRIXM TEAM !

December was the occasion for the PRIXM team to visit the convent of Saint-Etienne, and to introduce the new members to the Dominican community.

Indeed, the historical bond since the first visit of Nicolas, one of the founders, to the School in 2014-2015, to work at the Best, has remained intact!

This time, it was Thomas Costrel, Editor-in-Chief, and Léo Derumaux, Director of Growth and Marketing Development, who came to discover the birthplace of PRIXM!

“It was important for Thomas and Léo, the latest arrivals in the adventure, to meet the community, to discover the convent, and all the brothers with whom we have worked since the beginning of the adventure. This place is fundamental for us.
By coming here, it is an excellent way of becoming aware of the theological link that unites us, from Paris to Jerusalem.

Spending time with the brothers allows us to strengthen our ties, to live in fraternity and community with them for a few days. It allows us to immerse ourselves in their work and their way of life.

Being in Jerusalem means being in the place where Scripture is transmitted. It is the heart of our own prism. It is a real opportunity to pray in the holy places we talk about every day. This bathing in the Holy Land irrigates our work in the most beautiful and profound way.

As far as the future is concerned, the platform has a bright future ahead of it.
No less than 100,000 subscribers to the newsletter (weekly), and 750,000 readers on the website (totally free). But that’s not enough: they are targeting one million readers on the website, and 150,000 subscribers to the newsletter.

Also, stay tuned, you will surely hear about RITRIT, the new online platform for booking spiritual retreats, in France, in Europe, and even in the Holy Land, of course!

Launch of PRIXM in the English-speaking world!

The École biblique is delighted to announce

the launch of PRIXM in the English-speaking world!

PRIXM is a free, weekly newsletter unveiling the riches of Scripture to contemporary culture.
It was born from the work of the Bible in Its Traditions.

Help make PRIXM a digital success by relaying the good news to your family and friends
→ Subscribe just below or on https://www.prixm.org/en

Thanks to the help of 300 academics, animated by a strong desire to share an understanding of the beauty and depth of Scripture, the École biblique is building The Bible in Its Traditions, the most extensive and well-organzised digital annotation of the Bible ever undertaken. The ambitious work is not yet done, but we are convinced that the spirit of the Bible in Its Traditions and the results already published deserved to be shared with the public – and without further ado.

As a consequence, with the help of 3 young entrepreneurs living in Paris, we have launched PRIXM, a free, weekly newsletter. Every Sunday, PRIXM comments in surprising and clever ways upon some text from the Bible—always using paintings, films, and songs produced by great artists somehow inspired by the passage.

PRIXM is a success in France. 140,000 people already subscribe to the newsletter and a dialogue was naturally initiated with the readers. Subscribers regularly react and post questions, further inspiring our research and our work.

Given this success, the École biblique replicated PRIXM in Portugal in February
and will launch an English version starting April 1st!

Help PRIXM become a digital success in the English-speaking world. Please relay the good news and subscribe your family, friends, and anyone you know who might be interested in learning more about the Scripture in a fun and unexpected way!

THE BIBLE IN ITS TRADITIONS: WORK IN PROGRESS AND UPCOMING MEETINGS….

October marks the time of the return to the École biblique for students… and for the Bible In Its Traditions team. The group of researchers in residence in Jerusalem, coordinated by Brother Olivier-Thomas Venard OP, is actively carrying out several projects for this academic year 2019-2020.

University ferment in the Jerusalem offices

Three young students of the École Normale have begun the year by editing notes detailing thousands of works (literary, pictorial, musical, philosophical, etc.) inspired by the Bible, before correcting and harmonizing the biblical translations themselves, a meticulous and long-term work. An American assistant is editing Jonah and James, in preparation for their publication by Peeters editions.

Christiane Veyrard-Cosme, professor at the Sorbonne-Nouvelle University, finished the edition of the international conference organized by BEST and several prestigious universities in 2016. It will be published by the Institut d’Études Augustiniennes. With its support, the BEST is working to establish relations with the Agence Nationale de la Recherche.

Other publications in preparation

The first of three or four volumes of the commentary on the Passion selon Matthieu, focusing on Matthiew 26, was delivered to the publisher at the end of the summer. Dr. Bieke Mahieu is currently working on the scientific edition of Chapter 27, while Br. Olivier-Thomas and two are assistants completing the annotation of Chapter 28. Also coming up are the Commencement volume proofs, a total reworking of the 2010 “Demonstration Volume”, which should be released at the end of 2019 or early 2020.

Also on the agenda: with Br. Lukasz Popko OP, the editorial committee will examine the epistle of James prepared (in English) by Prof. Martin Albl. Then Prof. Michel Gourgues will visit toi revise the commentary on the pastoral epistles.

The general public is not forgotten in Paris

Seven members of the École biblique and BEST contributed to a special issue of Le Figaro dedicated to Jésus. The presentation of the book will take place on December 3rd in Paris, Salle Gaveau.

Season 4 has begun for the 120,000 subscribers to PRIXM, the weekly newsletter. For them and for the widest possible audience, BEST is confident that the first version of a completely illustrated Bible will soon be available on the Internet.

Nicolas and Valentine, from the Paris branch, are developing new proposals in parallel with some monasteries. This project will be an invitation to be closer to the biblical text.

Continued digital development

Br. Kevin Stephens (USA), Gad Barnéa (Israel), Pierre Hennequart (Paris) and the company Spyrit (Versailles) meet by video-conference every week for a working session with Br. Olivier-Thomas Venard. It is the constant and patient work of these digital developers that makes possible the construction of the biblical cathedral that is The Bible in its Traditions.

Stay tuned !

Bible in its Traditions

⇒ Contact and Informations: info@bibletraditions.org

The École biblique de Jérusalem has a long track record of transmitting the Scriptures to the general public, as evidenced by the Jerusalem Bible in the 20th century… Since 2010, with its research programme The Bible in its Traditions, the École has been working on a new kind of annotated Bible which puts historical study of the Scriptures in dialogue with their rich variety of interpretations over the centuries. In this way, the École continues its Catholic mission, in the most inclusive sense of the term: to connect the Bible with living Tradition, welcoming the truth and pursuing wherever it leads.

At the cutting-edge of the ‘digital humanities’

Our international collaborative online platform brings together dozens of researchers, in teams working Biblical book by Biblical book. Once registered by the École biblique, each researcher contributes according to their expertise. The Biblical scholars establish and annotate the texts themselves, in their contexts, then are joined by specialists in disciplines linked to the twenty-nine categories of annotation: Jewish studies, patrology, Ancient Near Eastern studies, archaeology, liturgy, theology, Classical and modern humanities, history of art, etc..

THE SCROLL : a new collaborative translation – why not join us on a archeo-revolutionary interface accessible to the greatest number?

⇒ Let the Bible light up your life :

PRIXM : every Sunday, receive and share our Biblical-cultural newsletter which brings the Bible to life for those who may never open it for themselves.

At the service of academic research

The platform is open to direct collaborators in The Bible in its Traditions, but also to: researchers, especially doctoral students, who can work on it analytically and preserve the fruits of their labours in the form of notes alongside the Biblical text; teachers who wish to use it for pedagogical purposes in lessons and seminars, etc..
