This Sunday, September 7, 2025, the Church proclaims Pier Giorgio Frassati a saint—a young lay Dominican tertiary from Turin. Pope Francis, who repeatedly presented him as a model of Christian life for young people, highlighted his courage, evangelical joy, and remarkable consistency of life.
Pier Giorgio discovered the spirituality of Saint Dominic in 1918, and in 1922, he made his profession as a Dominican tertiary, integrating a life of prayer with a concrete commitment to the poor, the sick, and the marginalized. This deeply considered decision reflected his sincere desire to live the Gospel without compromise.
As Nicola Gori reminds us in Sulla via dell’amore, Pier Giorgio was truly a “contemplative in action,” following in the footsteps of Dominic of Caleruega. His Dominican profession was not a mere formality, but a demanding and coherent path, marked by faith, prayer, and service.
Even today, his witness speaks powerfully. In a world often marked by indifference and selfishness, he calls us to live with hope, compassion, and Christian joy. His canonization is a gift to the entire Church, especially to young people in search of authentic role models on their journey of faith.
“To the heights” — with him, let us walk in faith.
