From October 5 to 9, 2026, the DEI will bring together researchers in Jerusalem and Bethlehem to discuss their recent work in the Holy Land. Fr. Yunus Demirci, Archaeology Coordinator, will speak on behalf of the École biblique et archéologique française de Jérusalem.
For over a century, the École biblique et archéologique française de Jérusalem and the German Protestant Institute of Archaeology in the Holy Land (Deutsches Evangelisches Institut für Altertumswissenschaft des Heiligen Landes, DEI) have shared a commitment to the scientific study of the region’s history and cultures, working as closely as possible with the field. The academic and friendly ties between our institutions contribute to the exchanges that make Jerusalem a prime location for international archaeological research.
From 5 to 9 October 2026, as part of the symposium ‘New Archaeological Research in the Holy Land’, the DEI is organising a series of lectures, archaeological tours and meetings in Jerusalem and Bethlehem on the latest research on both sides of the Jordan.
On Tuesday 6 October at 1.00 pm, Brother Yunus Demirci, O.F.M. Cap., Archaeology Co-ordinator at the ÉBAF, will deliver a paper entitled ‘Continuity and Innovation: New Research Horizons in Light of Past and Recent Excavations at the ÉBAF’, presenting the new horizons opened up by the resumption and enhancement of the archaeological research conducted by the School since its foundation.
