On Thursday, 5 November 2026, the next “Jeudis de l’ÉBAF” lecture will take place. Dr Konrad Kremser, Gamberoni Fellow at the École biblique, will give a lecture in English entitled: “The Book of Daniel: Conclusion of the Old Testament?”.
The Book of Daniel holds a unique place in Scripture. Largely composed in the second century BC, against the background of the Maccabean crisis, it is among the latest books of the Old Testament. Written partly in Hebrew and partly in Aramaic, it combines court tales with apocalyptic visions, and its place differs from one tradition to another: the Hebrew Bible counts it among the “Writings”, while Christian Bibles place it among the Prophets.
Can Daniel, then, be read as a conclusion — even a culmination — of the Old Testament? Do its vision of the Kingdom of God, the figure of the “Son of Man” and the resurrection of the dead make it a bridge to the New Testament? These are the questions Dr Konrad Kremser will invite us to consider.
